Samenvatting

Een 54-jarige adipeuze man die al tien jaar niet had hardgelopen, krijgt bij de eerste hardlooptraining pijn aan de mediale zijde van zijn knie. Dezelfde avond is de knie gezwollen en warm. Deze casus beschrijft het beeld van een niet-traumatisch, degeneratief meniscusletsel. Het hoofdstuk beschrijft de anatomie van de meniscus, de typen scheuren die kunnen optreden, de verschillen tussen een traumatisch en een degeneratief letsel, de diagnostiek en de behandeling. Het hoofdstuk maakt duidelijk dat degeneratieve letsels het beste conservatief kunnen worden behandeld.

De nn. articulares zijn de zenuwen die de innervatie van het kniegewricht verzorgen. Ze ontspringen vanuit de n. femoralis.
