Samenvatting

Met behulp van echoscopisch onderzoek kan bij een meerlingzwangerschap vrij eenvoudig:
  • het aantal foetussen bepaald worden;
  • op basis van het beeld van het tussenschot zowel de chorioniciteit als de amnioniciteit bepaald worden;
  • de intra-uteriene situs met lokalisatie van de foetussen en placenta’s geschetst worden;
  • de congenitale afwijking herkend worden die alleen bij monochoriale tweelingen voorkomt: acardiacus;
  • de congenitale afwijking herkend worden die alleen bij monoamniotische tweelingen voorkomt: vergroeide tweelingen;
  • het tweelingtransfusiesyndroom (TTS) gediagnosticeerd worden.
