Samenvatting

Met behulp van echoscopisch onderzoek kan bij een meerlingzwangerschap vrij eenvoudig:

het aantal foetussen bepaald worden;
op basis van het beeld van het tussenschot zowel de chorioniciteit als de amnioniciteit bepaald worden;
de intra-uteriene situs met lokalisatie van de foetussen en placenta’s geschetst worden;
de congenitale afwijking herkend worden die alleen bij monochoriale tweelingen voorkomt: acardiacus;
de congenitale afwijking herkend worden die alleen bij monoamniotische tweelingen voorkomt: vergroeide tweelingen;
het tweelingtransfusiesyndroom (TTS) gediagnosticeerd worden.
