23. Maagcarcinoom

Inleiding

In 2005 kreeg ruim 3% van alle Nederlandse mannelijke kankerpatiënten een maagcarcinoom.1 Voor vrouwen lag dat percentage op ongeveer 2%. Het maagcarcinoom was vele jaren de meest voorkomende vorm van kanker in Nederland, maar de kans hierop neemt al een aantal decennia af (figuur 23.1) en daarmee ook de kans om te overlijden aan maagcarcinoom (figuur 23.2). Een veel hogere incidentie van het maagcarcinoom wordt gevonden in noordoost Azië, oost Europa en oostelijk Zuid-Amerika.
