Samenvatting

Ademwegmanagement is een corebusiness van de anesthesioloog, ook op de PACU. Dit belangrijke onderwerp wordt toegespitst op de postoperatieve patiënt op de PACU door informatie te geven over extubatie, indicaties en plannen van een eventuele spoed (re-)intubatie en de daarbij behorende hulpmiddelen. Vervolgens worden essentiële basistechnieken van het ademwegmanagement en een essentiële airway rescue-manoeuvre (de cricothyreotomie) beschreven. Omdat deze essentiële technieken aan het begin, maar ook aan het einde van het ademwegmanagement staan, noemen wij dit ‘de alfa en de omega van het ademwegmanagement’.
