Samenvatting

In dit inleidend hoofdstuk wordt de inhoud van dit boekwerk gepositioneerd binnen het huidige holistische behandelspectrum. Binnen de looptraining volgen we enerzijds het ICF-model. Anderzijds worden ook een aantal facetten belicht die een belangrijke determinerende factor zijn bij de ganganalyse, de therapieplanning, de opbouw van de looptraining en keuzen van hulpmiddelen. De klinische besluitvorming (clinical reasoning) steunt enerzijds op een gedegen breed onderzoek, onderbouwd met gestandaardiseerde metingen en looptests (klinimetrie). Anderzijds bepalen de kennis, de ervaring en expertise van de therapeut mede zijn beslissingen. Kennis van de literatuur en onderzoeksresultaten (evidenced-based practice), integreren van principes van motorisch leren en motorische controle (motor learning en motor control) en correcte evaluatie van de behandelresultaten zijn essentiële determinanten voor de behandelstrategieën en een optimale looptraining. Het belang van al deze factoren wordt in dit inleidend hoofdstuk kort toegelicht en aangevuld met casuïstiek.
