Event Abstract

Body Image Assessment in the Computer Aided Psychological Support for Eating Disorders

  • 1 Department of Psychology "Gaetano Kanizsa", University of Trieste, Italy

Body image disturbance is a central concept in eating disorder psychopathology. The overestimation of body size and the desire for thinness have been suggested to play an important role in the onset and maintenance of eating disorders. Body image disturbances are measured with questionnaires, figural rating scales and, more recently, digital softwares, but assessment methods need to be improved. We present the development of a digital simulation technique called Body Image Revealer (BIR) for body image assessment and discuss its implications for therapy of eating disorder patients in the context of the CAPSED (Computer Aided Psychological Support for Eating Disorders).
