çevre, davranış biçimi, metabolizma, sosyoekonomik düzey gibi faktörlerdir. Obezite;
Polikliniğine başvuran BMI persantili %95’in üzerinde olan, obeziteye sebep
ortalama BMI persantili %62±5.421 idi.
Obez çocukların %21.5’i, kontrol grubunun %14.3’si (ÇÇDE) kesme
değerinin üzerinde idi ve istatistiksel olarak anlamlıydı. Obez kızların
%15.2’si, obez erkeklerin %10.4’ü kesme değerinin üzerinde idi ve cinsiyetler
arasındaki bu fark istatistiksel olarak anlamlı değildi.
Tartışma:
Depresyon ve yaşam kalitesi düşüklüğü
obez çocuklarda daha yaygındır. Çocukluk çağında obeziteyi önlemek yaşam
kalitesinin artması ve psikiyatrik açıdan sağlıklı bireylerin yetişmesi içinde
son derece önemlidir
ABSTRACT
Aim:
Obesity is considered as one of the major health problems that continue to
increase worldwide and the World Health Organization defines obesity as a
global epidemics. Obesity is increasing in all age groups and can progress
depending on many reasons. These are factors such as genetics, endocrine,
environment, behavior pattern, metabolism, socioeconomic level. Obesity leads
to many complications, both physically and psychiatrically. This study aims to
evaluate the quality of life and depression indications and the relationship
therebetween.
Material
and Methods: The study enrolled 50 healthy children
and 50 obese children who applied to Bozok University, Faculty of Medicine
Department of Pediatrics, had BMI percentile over 95%, and do not have
comorbidities to cause obesity and use any medicine. The Quality of Life Scale
for Children (QoL-C) and Depression Scale for Children (CES-DC) were applied to
the study subjects.
Results: Thirty girls and 20 boys were
included in the study in obese group, wherein age average is 11.72±2.71,
average body mass index (BMI) percentile is 96.2±0.61%. However, 28 girls and
22 boys were included in the control group, wherein age average is 11.76±2.91
and average BMI percentile is 62±5.421%. QoL-C total score, physical
functioning and psycho-social functioning scores were lower in obese group
compared to the control group and there was a statistically significant
difference between both groups. Depression scale for children was 16.7 ± 9.09
on average in the obese group while it was 8±3.51 on average in the control
group. The average of both groups was below the depression limit, but the
average of the obese group was close to CES-DC cut-off value. There was not any
correlation between depression and social anxiety scores and BMI in obese boys
and girls. 21.5% of the obese children and 14.3% of the control group were
above the Children's Depression Inventory (CDI) cut-off value, which is
statistically significant. 15.2% of the obese girls and 10.4% of the obese boys
were above the cut-off value, wherein the difference between the sexes was not
statistically significant.
Conclusion:
Depression
and poor quality of life are more common in obese children. Prevention of
obesity in childhood is vital in order to increase the quality of life and
raise healthy individuals psychiatrically.
