Effects of functional impairment on internalizing symptom trajectories in adolescence: A longitudinal, growth curve modelling study
2013, Journal of AdolescenceCitation Excerpt :Plausible reasons for these differences may include the different socialization processes that male and females undergo during childhood and differences in pubertal development. Several studies have shown the effect of functional impairment on the presence of symptoms and/or disorder (Bird et al., 1988; Narrow et al., 2002; Romano et al., 2001; Sanford et al., 1992; Shaffer et al., 1996; Simonoff et al., 1997; Waddell et al., 2002). Our results take this one step further and show that the inclusion of functional impairment criteria is associated with continuously measured increases in baseline internalizing symptom counts.
