Abstract
Background: The German Fragebogen zum aggressiven Verhalten von Kindern (FAVK; Inventory of Aggressive Behavior in Children) addresses four moderating components of aggressive behavior in children/adolescents aged 4 to 14 years. Objective: To analyze the FAVK as rated by parents (n = 156), teachers (n = 104), and patients (n = 91) in a clinical sample (aged 6 – 12 years). Methods: Factorial and internal validity, reliability, and aspects of convergent and divergent validity were analyzed. Results: Confirmatory factor analyses confirm both the hypothetical four-factor model and a three factor structure found previously in a community sample. The scales of higher order show satisfactory internal consistencies (α > .70). However, the test-retest reliability was not acceptable. The cross-informant correlations are lower than expected. Convergent and divergent validity can be confirmed at least in parent ratings. Conclusions: By considering several limitations, the FAVK can be used in practice and research as a sufficiently reliable and valid instrument.
