Abstract
The prevention of problems of human behavior will be facilitated if scientific findings and methods become an integral part of policy making and program adoption. The present paper provides a conceptual framework for research on this problem, using the dissemination of empirically-supported preventive programs for youth as an example. As empirically-supported preventive practices are identified, analyses are needed of what organizations might adopt each practice and the factors influencing such adoptions. Ultimately, experimental studies that manipulate presumed influences on practice adoption and maintenance will be needed.
