Neural responding during uncertain threat anticipation in pediatric anxiety
2023, International Journal of PsychophysiologyCitation Excerpt :Contrary to expectations, AD youth did not differentially engage the amygdala or anterior insula when viewing cues signaling threat uncertainty. While this differs from previous research (Morriss et al., 2015; Schienle et al., 2010; Shankman et al., 2014; Simmons et al., 2008; Somerville et al., 2013; Williams et al., 2015), small sample size could account for such unexpected findings. Moreover, features of our design also may contribute to these unexpected results.
Intolerance of uncertainty and functional connectivity of the anterior insula during anticipation of unpredictable reward
2023, International Journal of PsychophysiologyCitation Excerpt :Improving our understanding of the neural mechanisms underlying individual differences in IU may help inform etiological models of multiple psychopathologies and pave the way to novel targeted, transdiagnostic interventions and treatments. Individual differences in IU have been linked to changes in task-based activations of the amygdala, anterior insula (AIC), dorsal anterior cingulate (dACC) and prefrontal cortices (Gorka et al., 2016; Krain et al., 2006, 2008; Morriss et al., 2015; Morriss et al., 2021a, b; Schienle et al., 2010; Simmons et al., 2008; Somerville et al., 2013; Shankman et al., 2014; Oathes et al., 2015; McFadden et al., 2014). Of these regions, the AIC appears to be particularly impacted by, and underlie the expression of IU (Morriss et al., 2019; Shihata et al., 2016; Tanovic et al., 2018a; Wever et al., 2015).
