    First, increased resources could be devoted to improving treatment uptake and engagement after screening. Prior studies have noted the central role that parents play in the depression screening process; active approaches that provide psychoeducation to parents and involve them in routine treatment decisions may help ensure that treatment needs are met.30 Preliminary studies of warm handoffs, where an adolescent is introduced to a behavioral health provider at the time of referral, have been found to increase the likelihood of attendance at follow-up appointments.31,32
