2022, Annals of Thoracic SurgeryCitation Excerpt :Several large case-control studies have shown that women are at higher risk of lung cancer than men at all smoking levels, with an odds ratio (OR) almost 3 times greater.4,9,10 Additionally women are often diagnosed with lung cancer at a younger age than men despite lower cigarette consumption.4 These differences are hypothesized to be caused by a greater susceptibility of women to the damaging effects of tobacco carcinogens.
