ASSESSMENT

The physician's history, examination, and diagnostic studies determine the patient's diagnosis and prognosis of surgical or nonsurgical treatment. The clinician's history and assessment help to understand the behavior of the patient's symptoms and determine how the symptoms respond to treatment. A course of presurgical treatment (prehab) may be indicated in some hip cases to regain neuromotor control and decrease stresses to the joint. An appropriate exercise program can at times help restore

TREATMENT AND REHABILITATION PROGRESSION

From the clinician's subjective and objective assessment and the information provided by the physician, specific concerns and needs will be identified. The rehabilitative treatment plan after arthroscopic hip surgery depends on the pathology treated and the arthroscopic methods used. To achieve the overall goals for an individual patient, the clinician must assess what instruction, monitoring, and equipment are necessary, and must gauge the intensiveness or aggressiveness of the patient's

NEUROMOTOR CONTROL

Integrating proprioceptive training into the rehabilitative program enhances both conscious and unconscious appreciation of joint motion and position. Proprioceptive deficits routinely occur in conjunction with injury to the joint surfaces. This inhibits normal motor response and decreases neuromuscular stabilization of the joint. The aim of proprioceptive retraining is to restore these deficits and assist in re-establishing neuromotor control. The elements necessary for reestablishing
