Visual Loss: Overview, Visual Field Testing, and Topical Diagnosis
2018, Liu, Volpe, and Galetta's Neuro-Ophthalmology: Diagnosis and ManagementFailure in developing high-level visual functions after occipitoparietal lesions at an early age: A case study
2013, CortexCitation Excerpt :These three tests together suggested that CGN suffered right homonymous hemianopia without hemispatial neglect. The clinical confrontation test confirmed the diagnosis (Johnson & Baloh, 1991; Shahinfar, Johnson, & Madsen, 1995). A craniotomy was performed one day later, and the subdural hematoma was removed successfully.
Comparison of an automated confrontation testing device versus finger counting in the detection of field loss
2007, OptometryCitation Excerpt :When a visual field defect was identified with either test, it was a “real defect,” i.e., both tests had a specificity of 100%. These results are similar to those of other previously described studies 3,4 that reported a high specificity in patients having various ophthalmologic and neurologic disorders using finger-counting confrontation with simultaneous presentation in opposing quadrants. The ACV had a greater rate of detection of visual field loss in subjects with glaucoma compared with FCV.

2020, Survey of OphthalmologyCitation Excerpt :Damage to the splenium of the corpus callosum prevents transmission of information from the intact right hemisphere (right occipital lobe) to the left angular gyrus (reading center) in the left hemisphere (Fig. 1). The left hemisphere is the dominant hemisphere in the vast majority of patients, regardless of handedness, and thus, the language processing center and visual word forming area typically reside in the left angular gyrus.4,7-12 Although the use of thrombolytic therapy (e.g., tissue plasminogen activator) for major acute strokes is a well-known and effective emergent medical therapy, recognition of the neuro-ophthalmic presentations of PCA stroke can be mistaken for ocular rather than intracranial disease and may lead to delay of diagnosis and treatment.6
