Antiretroviral medication for preventing HIV infection in nonoccupational settings
2012, CMAJ. Canadian Medical Association JournalCitation Excerpt :A third large trial from 2011 showed less promising results. The FemPrEP study, sponsored by Family Health International,16 was a randomized, placebo-controlled trial of oral emtricitabine/tenofovir involving African women that showed an equivalent number of infections in both the treatment and placebo arms. The study was stopped prematurely, because it was unlikely to show any effectiveness of treatment.
