  • Towards unified and impactful policies to reduce ultra-processed food consumption and promote healthier eating

2021, The Lancet Diabetes and Endocrinology
    Citation Excerpt :

One important note is that we expect to see changes in the food supply, food purchases, and dietary intake as a result of healthier food policies. Only after a varying number of years can changes in health, such as reductions in adiposity or incidence of type 2 diabetes, be documented, so a long-term view of decades of monitoring to see meaningful changes will be required.41,43,91,92 Understanding the need for this long-term view is especially important because we anticipate that the food industry will use a purported lack-of-effect argument as a key strategy in rejecting or removing these policies, demanding immediate changes in child obesity, and decrying the implemented policies as ineffective for not resulting in quickly seen changes.
