2021, Journal of Anxiety DisordersCitation Excerpt :Anxiety sensitivity may serve a mechanistic function linking positive emotion dysregulation and PTSD symptoms. Initial evidence in the context of panic symptoms suggests that individuals who negatively evaluate positive emotions are more likely to exhibit elevated anxiety sensitivity (Williams, Chambless, & Ahrens, 1997). Through stimulus generalization (Dunsmoor & Paz, 2015), individuals may have learned to fear aspects underlying the experience of some positive emotions (e.g., racing heart) that resemble processes involved in trauma-related symptomology perceived to signal a threat.
