Other interventions place an emphasis on SIP while including other skills central to social problem solving. For example, the Incredible Years treatment program (Webster-Stratton, 1981) has been successful in preventing child conduct problems (see Pidano & Allen, 2015 and Webster-Stratton and Ried, 2017 for review), and Promoting Alternative Thinking Strategies, a multifaceted prevention program with one module focused on SIP, has also been show to successfully increase social competence (Domitrovich et al., 2017). The impact of these SIP treatments, either by themselves or in conjunction with other skills training interventions, illustrates the importance of these essential skills for promoting children’s psychological functioning.
