Delivery of telephone-based supportive care to people with cancer: An analysis of cancer helpline operator and cancer nurse communication
2013, Patient Education and CounselingCitation Excerpt :Therefore those delivering supportive care need to be trained to identify any underlying emotional needs in calls. Consistent with medical consultations more generally [47–49], patients asked relatively few questions (less than 2.5% of utterances). Nurses and helpline operators used direct questioning (28% and 14% of utterances respectively) to obtain the patient's medical history and to identify patient supportive care needs.
Children and young people's participation in healthcare consultations in the emergency department
2011, International Emergency NursingCitation Excerpt :The audit process may require further development to ensure it is simple to ascertain when and where the child or young person has actively participated within their care. Roter and Frankel (1992) explored the qualitative and quantitative methods for evaluating medical dialogue and concluded that context and outcomes should form the basis of the determinants of measuring utility of communication. These two determinants are salient to children’s emergency care and may form the basis of evaluation of active participation within ED.
