Medicolegal Considerations Involving Iatrogenic Lingual Nerve Damage
2018, Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial SurgeryCitation Excerpt :Pulse recording at the cortical level after tongue stimulation indicates nerve trunk integrity. In healthy patients, electrical tongue stimulation causes a positive peak at 21 milliseconds (P21), with a maximum amplitude on the contralateral somatosensory cortex, which is, on the contrary, absent or delayed in patients with LND.66-72 The reliability of such signals, however, remains questionable because they can be altered by interference related to muscle electrical activity.
