2013, Asian Journal of PsychiatryCitation Excerpt :Benson et al. also reported less total sleep time and stage 4 NREM sleep duration, longer sleep latency and longer stage 1 NREM sleep duration in BPD patients compared to normal persons. Lahmeyer et al. (1988) in their study on BPD (without affective disorders history) and MDD patients found longer sleep duration, greater stage 1 percentage and less sleep efficiency in MDD group in comparison to BPD patients. They also did not find a significant correlation between REM sleep latency and depression scores (which were measured by Hamilton Depression Rating Scale and Carroll depression score).
