Childhood sexual abuse, risky sexual behaviors and adverse reproductive health outcomes among Chinese college students
2018, Child Abuse and NeglectCitation Excerpt :Traumatic dynamics theory introduced two specific pathways—traumatic sexualization and stigmatization—to explain the association between CSA and later life sexual behaviors (Finkelhor & Browne, 1985). The notion of traumatic sexualization indicated that experiences of CSA would disrupt normal sexual development, predispose to heightened sexual awareness at an early age, and lead to distorted sexual attitudes (Friedrich, 1993; Negriff, Noll, Shenk, Putnam, & Trickett, 2010; Noll, Trickett, & Putnam, 2003). Thus, victims of CSA might be more likely to display unhealthy and inappropriate behaviors, thus increasing the risk of engaging in risky sexual behaviors in adulthood (Negriff et al., 2010; Parks, Hequembourg, & Dearing, 2008).
