Abstract

As antiviral treatment modalities appear in ever-increasing numbers, the need for precise viral diagnosis becomes essential. A review of the current diagnostic methods, including virus isolation, serology, biopsy, and cytology, is presented. The newer, more sensitive immunoperoxidase stain and ELISA are discussed. The needs, methods, and benefits of an accurate viral diagnosis are stressed.
