2020, Children and Youth Services ReviewCitation Excerpt :In this study, we refer to happiness as it was defined by Lyubomirsky, Sheldon, and Schkade (2005, p. 115), as a subjective phenomenon (therefore, relied on self-report) determined by the frequency of positive affect and high life satisfaction levels. A series of recent studies explored predictors of children’s happiness and found that social relationships are highly important to children’s well-being (Holder & Coleman, 2009; Holder, Coleman, & Wallace, 2010), as well as self-esteem (Huebner, 1994) and temperament (Dew & Huebner, 1994). Koch (2017) researched into children’s perspectives on happiness and subjective well-being in preschool and confirmed the importance of social relationships such as friendship and group activities as active agents in promoting children’s well-being.
