2016, International Journal of CardiologyCitation Excerpt :Another principle inducer of coronary artery spasm is histamine produced by mast cells. According to R. Ginsburg et al., histamine at an intravenous dose of 0.5 to 1.0 μg/kg/min provoked coronary artery spasm, and pre-treatment with cimetidine (H2 receptor antagonist) was necessary to avoid that effect [38]. In the case of MI, with the proportion of degranulated mast cells being the highest in the segments with ruptured plaques, histamine released from adventitial mast cells may reach the media, where it may locally provoke coronary spasm [39].
