Wat houdt iemand gezond?

Samenvatting

Salutogenese werd door Aaron Antonovsky in 1979 geïntroduceerd in een poging te verklaren wat mensen gezond houdt, in tegenstelling tot de klassieke zoektocht naar pathogene factoren.

De positie van een persoon op het ziekte-gezondheidscontinuüm wordt bepaald aan de hand van het ‘sense of coherence’ (SOC)-concept. Deze SOC omvat drie dimensies (coping, ziekte-inzicht en zingeving) en kan met gevalideerde vragenlijsten gemeten worden.

Gezien het toenemend aantal chronische patiënten is het belangrijk om te investeren in een dergelijke holistische aanpak en aandacht te hebben voor ziektebeleving, ziekte-inzicht en psychosociale context.
