Rouw bij ouders van drugsgebruikende jongeren

Een exploratief kwalitatief onderzoek

Samenvatting

Drugsgebruik door jongeren legt een grote druk op hun ouders en kan voor hen gepaard gaan met het gevoel van verlies van het kind aan drugs. Hoe beleven en ervaren ouders dit verlies? Aan de hand van semigestructureerde vragenlijsten peilden de auteurs de beleving bij tien ouders van drugsgebruikende jongeren. Duidelijk werd dat ouders een gefaseerd rouwproces ervaren dat een langdurig en wederkerend verloop kent. Dit proces wordt in verslavingsonderzoek weinig geëxploreerd en verdient extra aandacht in de drugshulpverlening. De rouwfasen die ouders doorlopen gaan van ongeloof tot ontkenning, hoop, woede en onmacht en monden al dan niet uit in aanvaarding.
