Over schuld en schuldgevoel: een psychodynamisch perspectief

Samenvatting

Schuld en schuldgevoelens spelen een belangrijke rol in de menselijke ontwikkeling en het gedrag en ook in de ontwikkeling van psychopathologie. In ons dagelijks leven en in de therapeutische praktijk worden we regelmatig geconfronteerd met deze krachtige gevoelens en hoe ze een causale rol kunnen spelen in het produceren van een verscheidenheid aan symptomen, remmingen en onaangepaste karaktertrekken. Dit artikel is een onderzoek naar het begrip schuld en resulteert in enkele therapeutische aanbevelingen. Eerst worden verschillende aspecten van de begrippen schuld en schaamte in het algemeen besproken. Vervolgens wordt gekeken naar het onderscheid tussen echte schuld en irrationele schuld, hoe irrationele schuldgevoelens kunnen ontstaan en welke effecten zij kunnen hebben op het gedrag. Volgens de indeling van Hirsch worden schuldgevoelens onderscheiden in vier groepen: basisschuldgevoel, schuldgevoel uit vitaliteit, separatieschuldgevoel en traumagerelateerd schuldgevoel. Deze schuldgevoelens en de hiermee samenhangende psychopathologie worden besproken en geillustreerd aan de hand van casuïstiek. Besloten wordt met de rol van schuldgevoelens in het therapeutisch proces en de mogelijkheden van de therapeut om hiermee om te gaan.
