Selectieve en geïndiceerde preventie van problematisch middelengebruik bij jongeren

Samenvatting

Alcoholmisbruik gedurende de adolescentie hangt samen met een breed scala aan problemen op zowel korte als lange termijn. Universele preventieprogramma’s zijn echter weinig effectief gebleken in het voorkomen van alcoholmisbruik onder jongeren. In dit artikel wordt een overzicht geschetst van het aanbod aan selectieve en gëındiceerde preventie en wordt de effectiviteit van deze preventieprogramma’s besproken. Op het gebied van selectieve preventie geven persoonlijkheidsgerichte programma’s de meest veelbelovende resultaten. Persoonlijke normatieve feedback, al dan niet in combinatie met motiverende gespreksvoering, lijkt een effectieve gëındiceerde interventiemethode. Meer onderzoek naar de werkzame elementen van selectieve en gëındiceerde preventie is nodig, evenals onderzoek naar de effectiviteit van deze interventies voor specifieke subgroepen van jongeren. Tot slot kan toekomstig onderzoek zich richten op nieuwe interventietechnieken, die meer automatische cognitieve processen trachten te veranderen.
