Intrusiefouten bij geheugenonderzoek

Samenvatting

Van 823 achtereenvolgende psychogeriatrische patiënten (onder wie 87,1 % met een vorm van dementie) werd genoteerd hoeveel intrusiefouten zij maakten bij vrije reproductie van de Achtwoordentest, onderdeel van de Amsterdamse Dementie-Screeningstest (ADS). Bijna de helft van de deelnemers (45,9 %) maakte één of meer intrusiefouten. Het aantal correct gereproduceerde lijstwoorden was kleiner voor deelnemers die intrusiefouten maakten. Leercurves over de vijf trials verliepen echter gelijk, ongeacht de aanwezigheid van intrusiefouten. Correlatieanalyse liet zien dat deelnemers die intrusiefouten maakten, minder lijstwoorden herkenden, minder goede resultaten behaalden bij de ADS-subtest Visueel geheugen (uitgestelde herkenning van afbeeldingen) en minder goede resultaten behaalden bij twee tests voor uitvoerende mentale controle (Behavioral Dyscontrol Scale en ADS-Meander). Bij hiërarchische multiple regressie bleken enkel de scores op de Achtwoordentest en Visueel geheugen geassocieerd met de productie van intrusies. Covariantie met indicatoren van uitvoerende mentale controle leverde geen onafhankelijke verklarende bijdrage. Zwakke geheugensporen, tot uitdrukking komend in lagere scores op de Achtwoordentest, zijn een meer waarschijnlijke verklaring voor intrusies dan een primair tekort van uitvoerende mentale controle.
