Researchers in the field of health-related quality of life (HRQOL) are increasingly aware of the importance of patient engagement in their research. In the past, patients were primarily involved as subjects of research. They provided input and feedback on new measurement development, intervention design, or implementation strategies. The current emphasis on engagement is more elaborate. We now invite patient representatives onto advisory committees and research teams to inform all stages of the research cycle, starting with the research question. …
