Geschlechtsspezifische Ausprägung depressiver Störungen im Kindes- und Jugendalter

Zusammenfassung

Depressionen sind eine umfangreiche und heterogene Gruppe psychischer Störungen mit deutlichen Unterschieden in der Alters- und Geschlechterverteilung. Eine offizielle altersabhängige Klassifikation der Depressionen ist zurzeit nahezu unmöglich, obgleich sie von vielen Seiten erwünscht wäre. Im Kindesalter sind die Depressionen ziemlich seltene Störungen, die bei beiden Geschlechtern gleich häufig auftreten. Erst nach dem 10. Lebensjahr und vermutlich durch die biologischen Umstellungen der Pubertät ausgelöst, kommt es zur Zunahme der Zahl, des Schweregrads und zum Überwiegen des weiblichen Geschlechts.

Abstract

Depression is one of the most important and most prevalent psychiatric disorders. During childhood, depression is less prevalent and less severe than during adulthood. During adolescence, both prevalence and severity of depression increase, and the proportion of females doubles. An important role of female hormones in this process is possible, but not fully proven. From a psychological point of view, females also exhibit a number of attitudes and coping strategies which promote depressive reactions.
