Samenvatting
Therapeuten zijn opgeleid om mensen te helpen. Ze gaan er daarom van uit dat cliënten die tegenover hen zitten, geholpen willen worden. Meestal is dat ook zo. Therapeuten vooronderstellen echter ook dat cliënten die geholpen willen worden, bereid zijn zelf te veranderen en zich daar actief voor in te zetten. Ondanks hun lijdensdruk is dat echter lang niet altijd het geval. Bijna alle cliënten willen hulp, maar soms is het voldoende alleen maar over het probleem te praten. Regelmatig wil men dat vooral anderen veranderen, of de omgeving. En vaak is men niet in staat of bereid zelf veel inspanning te leveren. Het misverstand is dus dat cliënten die hulp zoeken, per definitie veranderingsbereid zijn.
