Screening en follow-up van kinderen die voor thuisbeademing in aanmerking komen

Samenvatting

Kinderen met chronische respiratoire insufficiëntie kunnen in aanmerking komen voor thuisbeademing. Bij voorkeur wordt een dergelijke behandeling in electieve, niet-acute omstandigheden opgestart, nadat zorgvuldig afgewogen is of de patiënt ervoor in aanmerking komt. Als eenmaal besloten is dat de patiënt in aanmerking komt voor thuisbeademing, moet door middel van systematische screening en follow-up bepaald worden wanneer het beste hiermee gestart kan worden. Dit artikel formuleert praktische aanbevelingen hiervoor bij patiënten met (1) een neuromusculaire aandoening, (2) centrale hypoventilatie, (3) het obstructief slaapapneusyndroom of (4) cystische fibrose.
