Abstract

adhd(Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) is een veel voorkomende kinderpsychiatrische stoornis die wordt gekenmerkt door aandachtproblemen, al dan niet gepaard aan hyperactiviteit en impulsiviteit. Dertig tot zestig procent van de kinderen met deze stoornis blijft ook op volwassen leeftijd symptomen behouden (Weiss et al., 1985). De inzichten in de aard van deze problemen en de behandelingsmogelijkheden blijven beperkt. De laatste jaren verschenen er in de psychofysiologische literatuur empirische studies over therapeutische successen meteeg-biofeedbackbehandeling bijadhd. In bredere psychiatrische kring is men weinig bekend met de psychofysiologische invalshoek. Ook het feit dat het om veelal louter empirische studies gaat zonder psychofysiologische modelvorming en zonder inbedding in de bestaande psychiatrische modellen draagt bij tot het gebrek aan interesse. In dit artikel zal daarom niet alleen een overzicht gegeven worden van de empirische studies, maar zal ook een psychofysiologisch verklaringsmodel voorgesteld worden (Van den Bergh, 1997).
