Samenvatting

Inspanningstests vormen tegenwoordig een belangrijk onderdeel van op maat gesneden trainingsprogramma’s. Ze dragen bij aan een goede evaluatie van de trainingsresultaten en maken de training effectiever. De 6-minutenwandeltest is een intensieve inspanningstest die gebruikt kan worden om het functionele inspanningsvermogen van een patiënt in kaart te brengen en te evalueren. De test kan toegepast worden bij patiënten met diverse indicatiegebieden, waaronder hart- en longaandoeningen alsmede bij reumatische aandoeningen en bij ouderen. De test kan goed gestandaardiseerd uitgevoerd worden. In het artikel staat een beschrijving van de uitvoering en aanmoediging, evenals een set van bestaande referentiewaarden. Eén à twee oefensessies zijn al voldoende om een leereffect uit te sluiten. In elke praktijk met een rustige gang van twintig meter kan de test worden uitgevoerd, zonder dat dure en ingewikkelde apparatuur nodig is.
