een overzicht van de varianten en verschillende betekenissen

Samenvatting

Wat bedoelen we met automutilatie? Is kettingroken geen vorm van zelfbeschadiging? Wanneer spreken we van zelfverwonding dan wel van een suïcidepoging? Om dit soort vragen te beantwoorden is een duidelijke omschrijving en diagnostische afbakening van zelfverwondend gedrag (ZVG) nodig. In deze bijdrage wordt daarom eerst gepleit voor heldere definities. Verder staan we stil bij de vraag of het hier nu een aparte stoornis betreft en bespreken we de verschillende betekenissen of functies van ZVG.
