Behandeling van partnermishandelaars

Abstract

This contribution is about domestic violence, particularly about men who batter their (female) partners. Prevalence, theories, types of perpetrators, risk assessment and treatment possibilities of domestic violence are reviewed. A multi-causal theory of domestic violence is advocated and a better match between type of perpetrator and type of treatment. Following this, an integrated approach of domestic violence, as was introduced in the Northern part of the Netherlands, and the first experiences with this approach is described. The article ends with a plea for a nation-wide research program on the treatment of domestic violence.

Samenvatting

Dit artikel gaat over relationeel geweld, in het bijzonder over mannen die hun (vrouwelijke) partners mishandelen. Achtereenvolgens komen aan de orde: prevalentie, theorieën over oorzaken en factoren die het geweld instandhouden, dadertypologieën, risicotaxatie en behandelingsmogelijkheden van relationeel geweld. We pleiten voor een multicausale theorie en een betere afstemming tussen type dader en type behandeling. Daarna beschrijven we de integrale aanpak van thuisgeweld in Noord-Nederland en de eerste ervaringen die inmiddels met deze aanpak zijn opgedaan. Het artikel eindigt met een pleidooi voor een landelijk onderzoeksprogramma naar de behandeling van relationeel geweld.
