De periodieke explosieve stoornis: richtlijnen voor de behandeling

Abstract

In this contribution directives are presented for the treatment of intermittent explosive disorder in a forensic setting. The treatment exists predominantly of teaching self control techniques, but this goal can only be achieved when the therapist succeeds in keeping the client motivated. The treatment consists of the stages problem awareness and psycho-education, identification of warning signals, teaching the client to apply a personal time-out, teaching adequate behaviour that replaces the exposive behaviour, and consolidation of newly acquired skills. The treatment is illustrated with a succesfully treated client.

Samenvatting

In dit artikel worden richtlijnen gegeven voor de behandeling van de periodieke explosieve stoornis in een forensische setting. Inhoudelijk bestaat de behandeling vooral uit het aanleren van zelfcontroletechnieken, maar dit doel kan alleen worden bereikt als het de therapeut lukt de cliënt daartoe te motiveren en gemotiveerd te houden. De behandeling bestaat uit de fasen psycho-educatie en verhogen van motivatie tot verandering, identificeren van waarschuwingssignalen, ontwikkelen van een time-out, leren van vaardiger gedrag dat het explosieve gedrag kan vervangen, en consolidering. We illustreren de methode met een casus.
