9 Reumatische aandoeningen

Samenvatting

De in de spreektaal voorkomende term reuma is een verzamelnaam voor meer dan tweehonderd verschillende aandoeningen van het houdings- en bewegingsapparaat en het bindweefsel. De ernst van deze aandoeningen varieert van lichte pijn of stijfheid tot zeer invaliderende ziektebeelden. De term reumatische aandoeningen suggereert ten onrechte dat het gaat om aandoeningen met een gemeenschappelijke oorzaak en een gemeenschappelijke verschijningsvorm. Integendeel, de aard en de psychologische en sociale aspecten van deze aandoeningen zijn zeer divers. Veel patiënten met reuma hebben pijn, moeheid, beperkingen en een hoge medische en psychosociale zorgbehoefte. In dit hoofdstuk worden reumatoïde artritis, artrose en fibromyalgie besproken.
