Abstract
Cultural identities can have a positive role in youths’ lives. Cultural identity refers to cognitive and affective appreciation of group membership. Depending personal and social circumstances, cultural identity can either be an asset or a danger. Efforts to help youth achieve a positive cultural identity should seek to create contexts in which they can safely explore their identities.
