Mental Health Screening at School

Abstract

This chapter begins with a presentation of the historical and theoretical trends surrounding screening for health problems. Cases where screening for chronic diseases have been successful are introduced as support for the potential effectiveness of screening for other conditions such as mental health problems. The history and current status of mental health classification in clinical and school settings is reviewed, including the role of governmental and legal processes in guiding mental health practice.
