Abstract
For many, adolescence is a time when entities other than parents become an increasingly important source of developmental influence. The larger community may shape adolescents by serving as a source of risk, protection, or as a context for intervention. This chapter addresses three specific sectors of the community and their influence on adolescent development: peers, neighborhoods, and media.
