Abstract
The purpose of this chapter is to call attention to the importance of biological influences in theories of psychopathology. In the first edition of this book, I expressed frustration at the relative neglect of biological variables on the part of behaviorally oriented investigators. Happily, in the ensuing years, there has been an increasing recognition of the importance of biology among psychologists. It is hoped, therefore, that this chapter will serve to strengthen that trend, and perhaps even to encourage the inclusion of biology courses (e.g., behavior genetics, behavioral neuroscience, behavioral pharmacology) in the training of psychopathologists.
