Abstract
Upon first meeting Janet, she just overflowed with energy. She had a smile that lit up a room and radiated warmth like the Summer sun. Her confidence was overwhelming. She was articulate, bright, and exuberant. She was proud to be the mother of three adolescent sons and a newborn. Janet spoke lovingly of her partner and showed everyone her new wedding band. At first glance, no one would know that Janet had been repeatedly abused as an adolescent, that she was a teen mother of twins, that she was a crack addict who was living with HIV, and that she had a son also living with HIV.
