Abstract
Food selectivity has frequently been reported in children with autism spectrum disorder. It is likely that the causes of food selectivity are attributable to a variety of factors. One factor contributing to food selectivity is sensory sensitivity. The relation between sensory sensitivity and food selectivity is highlighted in this chapter using literature review and examples from individuals with autism spectrum disorders and parents of children with autism spectrum disorders. The role of occupational therapy in sensory processing disorders and the importance of an interdisciplinary approach are highlighted.
