Abstract
Early infantile autism is a severe form of psychopathology in children originally described by Leo Kanner (1943). The disorder is relatively rare, affecting one child in approximately 2,500 births. The ratio of boys to girls is 3 or 4 to 1. Although the incidence of autism is not frequent, its occurrence has a major impact on the child, family, schools, and the community as a whole. This is primarily the case since the disorder involves so many areas of the child’s functioning.
