The Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales were designed to address adaptive behavior, or the personal and social skills necessary for everyday independent living across the life span (birth–90 years). Now in their second edition, the Vineland Scales are the leading instrument for assessing adaptive deficits to support a diagnosis of intellectual and developmental disabilities, including autism spectrum disorders (ASDs); they are also used to assess the functional day-to-day impacts of other impairing disorders, developmental and otherwise (e.g., brain injury, ADHD, language delays). The Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales can be administered to parents, teachers, and other caretakers using survey interview and rating forms.
