Effect of an intervention on observed sun protection by vacationers in a randomized controlled trial at North American resorts
2017, Preventive MedicineCitation Excerpt :While programs to increase protection among outdoor workers in these industries have clearly demonstrated positive effects (Andersen et al., 2008; Andersen et al., 2012; Buller et al., 2005; Geller et al., 2001), efforts aimed at transitory adult recreators and vacationers have shown more limited results. Several studies showed some positive but mixed effects (Dupuy et al., 2005; Pagoto et al., 2003; Pagoto et al., 2010; Roberts and Black, 2009; Walkosz et al., 2014; Weinstock et al., 2002). Others showed little or no effects (Segan et al., 1999; Winett et al., 1997; Zhou et al., 2015).
Validation of sun exposure and protection index (SEPI) for estimation of sun habits
2015, Cancer EpidemiologyCitation Excerpt :Also, the combination of the two parts of SEPI, addressing not only the present behaviour but also the propensity to change it, in the same instrument, gives the user a comprehensive picture of whether the responder needs to increase sun protection, as well as the likelihood to successfully promote such a change. Finally, the possibility to look at SEPI both as a global score or to focus on individual questions/behaviours may be useful for constructive risk communication, a clear advantage in comparison with previous instruments [22,23,27]. In conclusion, the SEPI appears to be a stable instrument with overall acceptable validity and reliability, and is applicable to evaluate individual sun exposure and protection in populations exposed to different UVR environments.
Validity and reliability of sun protection behavior scale among Turkish adolescent population
2015, Asian Nursing ResearchCitation Excerpt :The differences in data collection therefore have made it difficult to reach a common conclusion [18]. It was for this reason that the need arose to create a Turkish version adaptable to the Turkish adolescent population, of the SPBS that is being used in many interventional studies in the American population [11,13]. The main purpose of this study was to make a cultural adaptation and perform psychometric analyses of the SPBS.
